A second pause for thought

In this version I've lightened the wall behind the statue and then lightened and deepened the colours in a few other places, with emphasis on getting more light against dark contrasts, to give what I think is now a more pleasing result. Thank you Pat and Judy for your helpful suggestions :)

I'm glad I could be of help, still struggling with my own problem though, but I will post it anyway tomorrow.

  5. A great sketch Michael and I like the changes. I keep telling myself I must do something with my coloured pencils, and that I must make myself draw plein aire. I find your work inspiring. Good job. ;-)

  6. Thanks for your lovely comments, John! I'm hoping to do a lot more plein aire before the family hols in Dorset - a beautiful place to sketch.

I'm starting to think now what I want to take in the way of sketching gear so I'll probably do a post on that subject soon. I took far too much last year and ended up buying even more while I was down there!

  7. I liked it just as it was - But I can see how the stronger contrast has made the statue stand out more - so it was the right thing to do :0)

  8. Thanks again, Sandra. It was a very subtle change but it did make a difference and was a useful learning experience for me :)

  10. Thank you for your very kind comments too, Anita. I stumbled by your blog a while back and noticed that you had not posted for a while so it was nice, when I stopped by again via Vivien's blog, to see that you had started to post again. Keep posting your lovely work!
